Gm buses 3299 f299drj

The first full size buses purchased by the new GM Buses company after deregulation was a batch of twenty eight Leyland Olympians that carried this newer, pleasing design of Northern Counties body. The original batch of twenty eight buses were cancelled as they were being built and eventually turned up in London for the new Bexleybus operation started by London Buses (E-KYR batch). When GM Buses was in a position to accept new buses aproxiamtely twelve months later these were the result. Apart from having the newer design of body they had a different interior moquette and ZF gearboxes in place of the usual Hydracyclic unit, though the trusty Gardner 6LXB remained.
The bus is seen here in Wigan when still more or less new and will shortly commence service back to Leigh on the 658 service. The bus was one of two from this batch allocated to the former LUT depot at Atherton.
